#23
Imagene Peise: Atlas Eets Christmas
by The Flaming Lips
Warner Bros.
545311-1
(red vinyl)
This record is another reissue of an older hard-to-find record with a checkered past. Originally released in 2007 as a Christmas album under a fake name ("Imagene Piece"), this Flaming Lips production is a quiet and entrancing collection of mostly instrumental variations on holiday standards. Lots of gentle, meandering jazzy piano mixed with a background of psychedelic synths and electronic noise, sitar and found sounds.
We can imagine playing this record as background music at a space-age cocktail party or just while sitting i front of the fire, meditating on the true meaning of Christmas.
Reminiscent of Vince Gualardi's Peanuts soundtracks, it also has something of a timeless quality. We think it must of been hard to find over time, so it was finally re-released last year for Black Friday on red vinyl (we have got a few copies in the shop this year.)
