25 Holiday Records: 24: Christmas Cheer by Les Paul & Mary Ford

We're counting down to Christmas Day with a list of 25 records we have in the shop at Royal Cat Records! Why? Because vinyl rules!

Our next record is a classic brought back in a shiny new wrapper:

#24

Christmas Cheer
by Les Paul and Mary Ford
Capitol Records
B0023642-01
10"

This is a great collection of Xmas tunes by the legendary husband and wife duo of Les Paul and Mary Ford. Les was the technical genius and producer, famous for inventing a variety of his namesake electric guitars, and Mary was the singing sensation who could match Les note for note and pick for pick on her own guitar. Together they made a ton of hit records, including some pop-rock holiday tunes. Maybe most famous of their Xmas recordings is an uptempo version of "A Christmas Song," memorably also a hit for Nat King Cole, however, that song is not on this record. Instead we get a deluxe 10-inch record, a reissue of the 7-inch single from 1955 from Capitol Records.

It's a collection of six Christmas recordings, both vocal and instrumental. Two bonus recordings have been added to those of the original 45 release for this special exclusive. It was pressed on 1000 Red and 1000 Green slabs for the Record Store Day-sponsored Black Friday event this year (2015).

(We still have a couple green ones in stock at Royal Cat Records.)

You will recognize several of these tunes as Holiday standards and it's undeniable the virtuosity of the two guitar stylists on display here.

Track List:

"Jingle Bells", "White Christmas", "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town", "Silent Night", "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Jingle Bells (Dingo-Dongo-Day)"
